[非公開] Takeshi Okada – the man who had the pl..
Takeshi Okada has finished his second stint as Japan’s head coach, but and despite a tumultuous reign he has finished on a high. But Okada came into his second World Cup as a figure of ridicule in Japan, for his team’s pitiful form, and globally, for his semi-final prediction. After the East Asian Championships in February, where Japan finished behind China and South Korea, the calls for O..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-07-03 01:24 am推薦 -
[非公開] Were the Blue Samurai sharp or blunt?
The South African adventure has come to an end for the 23 players involved. Some have of course been involved more than others, with 6 players playing every minute (the back 5, plus Honda), while 5 saw no action at all. So how did they get on individually? Well my brief opinions are below, but no doubt we’ll all have slightly differing views on several of them, so let me know what you think ..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-07-01 07:43 pm推薦 -
[非公開] Japan 0 Netherlands 1 – First thoughts
Japan went into this match with an unchanged side, which meant Keisuke Honda as the lone man up front again, and a very defensive formation. Japan were set up to play for a point and frustrated the Dutch throughout the first half. The first half possession was overwhelmingly in favour of the Dutch, but in the first 45 minutes Eiji Kawashima was not threatened once so you could say the stifling ..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-06-20 12:04 am推薦 -
[非公開] Okada’s plans for the Dutch
Takeshi Okada’s pre-match press conference has seen the boss man saying that Japan will take a more positive approach than they did against Cameroon… “I have no intention of telling the team to play for a draw The players are up for it. I mean, what kind of a coach would I be if I told them they couldn’t go for it and to start worrying about goal difference, the Denmark game and what no..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-06-19 07:46 am推薦 -
[非公開] Another loss, African style this time
Japan’s final World Cup warm-up match ended in another defeat, this time 2-0 to the Ivory Coast. The goals came courtesy of an early strike in the 13th minute from Didier Drogba another Tulio own goal (this is becoming a habit!), and a second on 79 minutes from Kolo Toure. This time Tulio’s own goal was a deflection from a Drogba free-kick – let’s just hope he’s getting all these thin..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-06-04 09:29 pm推薦 -
[非公開] 3 goals for Japan! Beaten but signs o..
Well that was an interesting match certainly. Japan led for the majority of the match against England only to lose out thanks to two own goals falling to a 2-1 defeat. Japan took the lead after only 7 minutes thanks to a low corner cut back from Yasuhito Endo to Marcus Tulio Tanaka who had lost his marker Glenn Johnson. Tulio fired home first time through the crowd on the goal line. I hope w..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-05-31 12:31 am推薦 -
[非公開] Defeat to Korea
Japan lost the frinedly match with South Korea 2-0 in Saitama infront of an impressive 57,000 crowd. Japan’s line-up was Narazaki; Nakazawa, Konno, Nagatomo; Abe, S.Nakamura (Morimoto 63), Endo (Komano 79), Hasebe, Honda (K.Nakamura 72); Okubo (Yano 87), Okazaki Japan started off with what looked like a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Okubo, Honda and Shunsuke behind Okazaki upfront, but in reality ..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-05-24 09:54 pm推薦 -
[非公開] Who will be in the final 23?
It’s almost time for the squad announcement, with Takeshi Okada set to name names on May 10th. I’d previously thought that this would be a provisional 30 man squad, as the likes of England are doing, which would then be trimmed down to 23 by 1st June, the FIFA deadline. But some news outlets state otherwise so it seems I was making assumptions, and in fact Okada will be naming his final 2..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-05-05 11:58 pm推薦 -
[非公開] Striking Gold? Japan’s World Cup strik..
The final part of my look at Japan’s potential squad is of course up front where the real action is. This is where dreams are made and dreams are dashed. Unfortunately in Japan’s case, there hasn’t been much of the former, and far too much of the latter in recent times. The Blue Samurai’s blade is blunt, and that would be something of a worry at anytime, let alone just before World Cup..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-03-13 07:03 am推薦 -
[非公開] Japan finally score again! – 3-0 win o..
Let’s start with the positives shall we? Japan dominated the match utterly and recorded the win that was essential against Hong Kong to restore some pride and confidence and to remain with a chance of winning the East Asian Championships. Numerous chances were created, which is a good thing – we’ll deal with the finishing of those chances shortly. Striker Keiji Tamada scored twice, takin..Japan World Cup Team Blog|2010-02-12 03:01 am推薦
